Unit 3 Warm-up Example

Unit 4 Technical Skill Example

Unit 5 Repertoire Example

Warm-up & Technical Skills Reflection

A.  Identify areas of warm-up & technical skills strength

I think I am good at picking things up quickly and staying with them.

B.  Identify areas of needed improvement for warm-ups & technical skills

I am bad at consistently being able to practice for as long as I would like to do to my schedule this semester.

C.  What strategies might you use to overcome these challenges?

Now that bio seems to be cooling down and I've been prescribed a new migraine medication, I feel I can improve my consistency by a large margin.

Mid-Semester Reflection

  1. In what way have you grown as a musician thus far?

I've gone from someone that knew nothing about how to read music or even touch a piano to someone that feels confident playing simple songs and reading (some) sheet music.

  1. What has been the greatest benefit/most rewarding aspect of your learning experience this semester?

Because I had such a limited experience with piano going in, I wasn't aware of how soothing it can be to practice. I think the most rewarding aspect of this semester has been spending half my mornings learning  a soothing new skill rather than breeding flies with Dr. Spero (lol).

  1. In what ways might you modify your approach to practicing during the second part of the semester?

As stated earlier, I am really going to try to increase my consistency overall. And I believe my circumstances set me up for success in that area.

Self Inventory Reflection

  • Review your Self Regulation Inventory in Getting Started

A.   Comment on how you addressed the weaknesses you identified and/or how you overcame challenges in regards to achieving success this semester thus far

I addressed them by maintaining consistency while in the Riley center.

B.   Reassess the 30 true/false statements for the Self Regulation Inventory.  Compare your current ratio to your initial one.

25/30, 25/30 (While I have overcome some of the weaknesses on certain tasks, they still remain at large)

C.   Will you approach the process differently for the second half of the semester?  If so, how?

It is not.

D.  How has your thinking about your thinking(metacognition)changed?

I find that I enter class mentally prepared to practice for the full block.

E.  Comment on the outcome of these self assessments as it relates to the quality of your work flow thus far

I fell my work flow has been fairly good. Besides the timeliness of my units, I feel I am doing an ample job getting things done considering this class is only every other day.

F.  What has been your greatest self regulation strength?

I feel I can hold myself accountable and I have been able to do the majority of online work at home to leave me in class time to practice. This is a strong suit.

G.  How can you compensate for weaknesses?

Once the craziness of spring junior year calms down, I will be able to overcome my weaknesses in timing.

Goals of This Semester Reflection

A.  What were your intended results?

I wanted to be able to read music and play simple songs by the end of the semester

B.  What were your actual results?

I am on a path towards my goals. I am definitely getting there.

C.  What caused your results?

A great instructor/unit gateways

D.  What will you do the same next time?

I will continue to come and practice a consistent set of warm-ups and drills.

E.  What will you do differently?

I will try to be more consistent with the days I can come in

Music Literacy Reflection

Review your Music Literacy Benchmark Assessment located in Unit 1

  • Pitch = 2

  • Rhythm = 2

  • Meter = 2

  • Signs, Symbols & Terms = 3

  • Scales = 2

  • Key Signatures = 3

  • Chords = 2

  •  Intervals = 2

  • Ear Training = 2

  • Dictation = 2

  • Sight Reading = 3

A.  Comment on your achievements thus far (1,3,5) relating to your literacy confidence for each concept

I can confidently say that my average literacy in these subjects has gone from a 1 to a 2.5 across the board.

B.  Are you making good progress toward your goal?

I believe so. I have much more knowledge of these topics than when I initially came in.

C.  Describe the resources/tools that are most helpful to your understanding of this subject

The repetition of practice as well as an amazing instructor have been the most invaluable resources for me.

D.  What might interfere with your progress and how can you prevent this interference?

The only interference I can foresee is more interruptions from bio. I feel as the curriculum in that class is winding down it will be much easier to handle

Quality of Work Reflection

  • Briefly review the assignments you have submitted for Units 1-5

A.  Comment on the quality of work reflected in your ePortfolio relating to areas of strengths as well as areas of needed improvement

I believe the quality of my work was fairly good this semester. I never submitted anything before it was ready, which caused some serious delays.

B.  Will you continue to sculpt the work reflected in your ePortfolio as you did for the first half of the course or do you plan on making changes for the second part of the semester?

Over the next half of the semester my goal is to maintain the current level of work without the delays in submission dates.

Feedback

I know positive feedback is the least helpful kind of feedback, but I thoroughly enjoy this class and I don't see any apparent areas of needed improvement.
