Exposure Compensation

This project was to frame the same subject in 5 different exposures. In the middle, the camera was exposed to what the camera considered perfect lighting and from there the others are either darker than considered optimal or lighter.

Depth of field

In this assignment we had to take different depths of the same frame. In other words, focus on different elements of the photo-scape in each shot.

Color search

We each randomly picked a piece of paper that told us what all our subjects had to have in common. The task was to get as many subjects as possible. I got yellow.

Shutter speed

In this assignment we had to capture motion in 4 ways using changes in shutter speed.

Composition

Paper Lighting/White balance

In this assignment we had to take 20 photos of one piece of paper that could not be cut. We then had to select 3 to edit in photoshop and adjust the color balance until we were satisfied with the whiteness of the photos. The assignment's purpose was for us to learn how to adjust the overall colors to achieve white without changing how robust the surrounding light/colors were.

The first photograph - Nicephore Niepce

Nicephore Niepce was a French inventor and the first person take a photograph. In 1826 he used his heliography (meaning "drawing with the sun) process to capture the first photograph. Born in France in 1765, he was one of the most important figures in the invention of photography. In 1816 Niépce tried a new technique called lithography and began to explore ways of using light sensitive materials to produce images directly onto a flat surface. His innovations led to posthumous interest and developments in photography after his death in 1839 at the age of 69. These innovations are what led to photography as we know it today. Only 16 of his original heliographs are believed to still be in existence. There's no question that his impact on photography is represented all around us countless times everyday. Not only was he successful in heliography, he also invented the very first internal combustion engine in collaboration with his brother, Claude.

Light and shadow

In this assignment we had to take 20 images of a contrast of light and shadow in black and white. I opted to take the photos in color and photoshop them later thus having more control over the balance in my final black and white photos.

8 second exposure

In this assignment we had to capture what happens with our lights in no shorter than 8 seconds  by setting the shutter speed accordingly.
